A case of Fahr disease with transient slurred speech and abnormal movement of the left arm

Fahr disease is a rare neurological condition characterized by abnormal basal ganglia calcification. Some patients with have been reported to present the emergency department (ED) stroke-like symptoms. Here, we case of transient focal signs. A 63-year-old man came ED complaints slurred speech and movement his left arm. His symptoms lasted only 5 minutes before he recovered. He had no deficits when arrived at ED, previous medical history never taken any medication. physical examination revealed that patient was healthy, initial results laboratory tests were all within normal range. brain computed tomography (CT) without contrast enhancement symmetric calcification ganglia, thalamus dentate nucleus cerebellum. Magnetic resonance imaging neck CT angiography evidence acute cerebral infarction, intracranial large-vessel occlusion, or stenosis. Based on clinical presentation results, diagnosed in ED. recommended be admitted for differential diagnosis seizures additional tests, such as electroencephalography, but opted discharge against advice.
